News-

7.23.08

The 2008 regular season ended on a good note for the Crew as they earned their fifteenth win of the season. Kris Immel worked all 7 to earn his 5th win. Kris gave up 3 runs(one earned) on seven hits, striking out six.

Steve Roberts went 1 for 4 with a double and two RBI, Tony Jackson crushed an RBI triple, and Tom DeAngelis went 2 for 4 with an RBI and two stolen bases.

The Crew end the season with a 15-9 record, the first playoff game will be Saturday, but as of yet we do not know who our opponent will be, it depends on how games on thurs and friday play out, check back for updates as soon as possible.

7.19.08

The only thing hotter than the gametime temperature were the bats of the Canton Crew today, as the Crew crossed home plate 27 times by the time the double header was over. Jason Bogavich struggled with his command in game one, but managed to work around the six walks to throw the complete game.Jason gave up three unearned runs on five hits, striking out 8. Offensively there were many standouts, Steve Roberts and Tom DeAngelis both had 3 RBI each. Jason Bogavich had 3 hits; Rick Schroeter, Adam Schulz, TJ Lauck and Zach Lindeman each had 2 hits apiece.

Rick Schroeter also set a new single game record for stolen bases with four.

Game two had Tom Bomberger struggle thru 5 innings, having one blowup inning giving up nine runs in the third. The Crew offense came to play and responded quickly with a seven run fourth to give the Crew the lead and eventually added a few more for the 14-10 win.

Zach Lindeman was the offensive standout, going 2 for 3 with 4 RBI including a go ahead 3 RBI double in the 4th inning. Steve Roberts, Todd McCutcheon and Tom Bomberger each had 2 RBI in the winning effort.

7.17.08

The inconsistancies of the offense just won't seem to go away for the Canton Crew. Ryan Petrich was his usual dominant self giving up 2 runs(one earned) on 4 hits, striking out 6. Sadly for Petrich the Crew offense mustered only three hits, two of which never left the infield in 7 innings. The Crew also left five RISP and made another key error which was a deciding run.

Rick Schroeter had two stolen bases and scored the Crews only run, Kris Immel had the only RBI hit. Zach Lindeman and Tom DeAngelis had the other two hits.

7.16.08

Kris Immel threw his second complete game of the season to earn his fourth victory; beating the Titans 6-4. Immel worked into some trouble late but wiggled out of it with some great defensive help. Matt Kruger connected for the first homerun of the year for the Crew and the first of his four year career in Roy Hobbs. Paul Clark went 2 for 3 with a 3 RBI double, TJ Lauck hit his 4th triple of the year. Rick Schroeter also had two hits and Adam Schulz had an RBI.

This was probably the best played game for the Crew to date, making only one error, limiting strikeouts at the plate to only three. With the playoffs looming ever closer the Crew need to keep up the good baseball to keep their 2008 season alive.

7.12.08

The first game the Crew seemed to sputter offensively after the twelve day layoff, gathering only five hits and scoring only once in the top of the seventh. Luckily this was all Jason Bogavich needed as he turned in his best performance of the 2008 season. Jason shut down the Rebels for seven innings striking out ten and giving up only five hits. Rick Schroeter was the only Crew hitter with more than one hit, going 2 for 3 with the games only RBI.

Game two saw much more offensive production and the return of Tom Bomberger to a starting role. Tom pitched well going 5.2 innings giving up 2 runs(1 earned) one four hits. TJ Lauck worked 1.1 scoreless innings as well. Offensively Steve Roberts, Jason Bogavich, and Kris Immel each had two hits. Adam Schulz and Jason Bogavich both had two RBIs. Paul Clark scored two runs and crushed his first triple of the season.

SCHEDULE CHANGE- CARDINALS DOUBLE HEADER MOVED TO SATURDAY AT 10 AM AT ERIE ISLAND(on schedule as patterson 630 and 8 pm on sunday)

7.1.08

The Crew fired off some early 4th of July fireworks against the Brew Crew after dropping their last four games. Tony Jackson looked good for three innings until having to leave for hitting three batters. Kris Immel pitched two innings in relief to pick up his third win(3-0) of the year. Tom Bomberger also returned from the injured list of pitchers to work two innings.

Offensively there were many standouts, Tom DeAngelis had two hits to raise his team leading batting average to .467, Matt Kruger, Zach Lindeman, Steve Roberts, Craig Reed also all had two hits. Paul Clark, Adam Schulz, and Tom DeAngelis each drove in two runs apiece.

With the 4th of July break here it gives us a chance to recap the 2008 season so far. With a 9-8 record, the Crew should and could be doing much better, but with many key players coming back, the Crew are lining up to make a good run the second half of the season.

  • Best first half pitcher- Ryan Petrich 0.56 ERA 36 K 9 BB in 25.2 IP
  • Best first half hitter- Tom DeAngelis .467 AVG 10 RBI 13 RS 6 SB
  • Honorable Mentions-TJ Lauck(.409 12 RBI 11 RS);Adam Schulz(.344 7 RBI 7 RS)

6.29.08

There wasn't much to cheer about on a cloudy Sunday afternoon against the Irish. An extremely short manned Canton Crew were no match for the Irish, getting routed in both ends of the double header. Matt Buca and Jason Bogavich didn't pitch very well(Buca threw a CG in game one), plus a horde of errors due to players out of position.Hitting wise there wasn't much to talk about, game one Jason Bogavich went 2 for 3 and was the only player with more than two hits in one game.

On an additional note, welcome Chase Roberts to the Crew as a late season addition to help bolster a depleted and injured pitching staff.

6.25.08

For six innings the Canton Crew looked great, Ryan Petrich was again dominant, the offensive was clicking on all cylinders. Going into the top of the 7th the Crew had a six run lead. Canton Crew errors, combined with walks, hit batters, and timely hitting from the Explorers gave way to a six run 7th to tie the game. Another error in the top of the 8th led to the winning run being plated. Petrich gave up his first earned runs of the season(2) to raise his ERA to 0.56, the Crew as a team committed an astounding SIX errors.

Not all was bad news, the Crew offense finally broke loose. Tom DeAngelis had three hits and set a Canton Crew record for the most stolen bases in a game with three. Matt Kruger went 2 for 4 with 4 RBI; Rick Schroeter and Paul Clark each had two hits a piece as well in the losing effort.

Hopefully the Crew can iron out these defensive kinks as the season progresses closer and closer to playoff time.

6.24.08

A combination of shaky starting pitching and lackluster offense did in the Canton Crew again. Jason Bogavich struggled with his control, walking seven and giving up 8 runs(6 earned). TJ Lauck relieved and also struggled with throwing strikes giving up 2 runs in his 2/3rds of an inning.

Offensively, not much stood out for the Crew, nobody collected more than one hit in the game, Lauck, Roberts, Clark, and Schulz were responsible for the RBIs.

6.23.08

Game one saw a much improved Matt Buca go seven strong innings, giving up 4 runs(only one earned) on 6 hits. The Crew offense stumbled through most of the game, in the top of the seventh with the Crew leading 3-1, the Wild went up 4-3 on a few defensive miscues on the Crews part and some timely hitting from the Wild. The bottom of the seventh started with a single from Jason Bogavich, followed by a great infield bunt by Tony Jackson and Steve Roberts to load the bases. Tom DeAngelis unloaded them with a game winning 3 RBI double.

Game two was much more lopsided, the Crew struck for 5 runs in the 3rd inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Tony Jackson worked 3 scoreless innings for the win. Offensive standouts were Adam Schulz who went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, TJ Lauck who was 2-3 with 2 RBI, and Tom DeAngelis went 3 for 4 with an rbi and two runs scored. The game was rained out with one down in the top of the 6th, and the Wild played with eight players both games.

6.20.08

Game one of this week against the Akron Blaze did not go well for the Canton Crew. Matt Buca struggled with command and couldn't get out of the second inning, and again the Crew bats were mostly silent. TJ Lauck had 2 hits and an RBI and Kris Immel also had an RBI. Tony Jackson relieved Buca and threw very well, but the damage had already been done.

Game two was more of the same offensive woes against the Akron Dream. Jason Bogavich went the distance and was shaky, but better than his previous starts, walking 5 and giving up 8 hits and 5 runs(3 earned) in the loss. Offensively the Crew continued to struggle, leaving a small village in scoring position on the base paths. The few offensive bright spots were Rick Schroeter who went 3 for 3, TJ Lauck and Tony Jackson had two hits apiece.

Stats will be updated after the Stow Wild doubleheaders are posted later tonight

6.16.08

No blister got in the way of Ryan Petrich this time. Facing the Firestone Park Rangers for the second time this season, Ryan went seven scoreless innings, striking out 8 and giving up only 5 hits. Petrich has given up only one unearned run this season, which was his first inning of the season. Since then he has pitched 18.1 consecutive scoreless innings, striking out 25 batters and giving up only seven hits.

On the offensive side, the Crew took advantage of the scoring opportunities that presented themselves. Paul Clark singled home a run for his first hit and RBI of the season. Tom DeAngelis drove in a run with one of his two hits and raise his team leading average to .526. and a couple of errors on the Rangers side led to the third run being scored.

This was also the first game the Crew played an entire game without making an error in the field.

6.11.08

Canton Crew ace Ryan Petrich has yet to give up an earned run in 2008, dominating the Tallmadge Titans Wednesday night. Petrich needed only 80 pitched to toss his second career one hitter for the Crew, striking out twelve titans. Their only hit came in the 7th inning with a leadoff double. Petrich quickly dispatched the threat by striking out the next two. The Crews only run came from a leadoff triple by TJ Lauck and a sac fly by Kris Immel. Lauck also had a second triple later in the game but did not score.

After a series of rainouts, the Crew finally got in some baseball on a humid Sunday at Erie Island against the Streetsboro Slamsox. The first game saw a shaky Jason Bogavich and Crew defense outpitched and outplayed by Dan Misitigi and the Slamsox. Misitigi, the Slamsox pitcher who no hit the crew in 2007 was again dominant. The only hit of the game was delivered by Tom DeAngelis.

The second game saw the Crew offense come out firing, scoring in the first three innings. Adam Schulz led the way with two doubles, Todd McCutcheon drove in two runs and tom DeAngelis had three hits. Rick Schroeter also had a leadoff triple in the second inning. Kris Immel, making his first start of 2008, worked all 7, throwing a career high 119 pitches. Except for the 6th inning where the Slamsox did all their scoring, Immel was dominant, striking out nine and giving up only five hits in seven innings.

6.3.08

It was bound to happen sooner or later, the Crew lost last night 5-1 at Old Forge versus the league champion Firestone Park Rangers. Ryan Petrich continued were he left off in 2007 going 5 1/2 strong striking out 8 and giving up only one unearned run in the first inning before leaving with a blister on his middle finger. Zach Lindeman drove in the only run for the Crew who kept it tied until the top of the 8th when the Rangers pulled away for the win. Former Ranger Tony Jackson had a solid showing on the mound even though he got tagged with the loss. TJ Lauck had two hits as well in the losing effort.

5.29.08

The Crew are off to their best start since 2006, beating the Kent Knights 10-5 at Summit Lake on a chilly Wednesday night. Tom Bomberger made his first start for the Crew, going 4 strong innings giving up 3 runs on 4 hits and striking out 4. Marc Kourcklas also worked three innings for the save. On the offensive side, Todd McCutcheon continued his hot hitting ways, driving in three runs, Matt Kruger and TJ Lauck both drove in 2 in the win.

5.27.08

The Crew started off the 2008 season with a bang, sweeping the Saturday doubleheader against the AAA Silverhawks at Summit Lake. Jason Bogavich looked shaky on the hill for the Crew, but managed to get through 5 innings giving up 4 runs. Kris Immel relieved in the 6th and some shaky defense allowed the Silverhawks to take a one run lead. The Crew offense immediately responded with Todd McCutcheon singling to start the inning. New addition TJ Lauck crushed a run scoring double to tie the game. A flood of errors on the Silverhawks side allowed the Crew to gain the upperhand for good.

The Second game was much more onesided, Matt Buca was dazzling in his Crew debut, going 5 innings giving up 1 run on three hits and striking out five. Tom DeAngelis, Todd McCutcheon, and Rick Schroeter both drove in two runs each to help the game end in a 5 inning 11-1 victory.
