Canton Crew 0 at Alliance White PT 5

Feable is about the only word to describe the Crews performance at Summit lake tonight. The Crew offense and defense lacked and sort of intensity as they dropped their 3rd straight game. Tom Bomberger was shaky in the first, but only gave up 4 runs(2 earned) in 5 innings of work. Torrey Stimson made his 2010 debut on the mound in the 6th allowing a run.

The Crew offense managed only three hits and for the second time in two days were completely shut down at the plate. Ronnie Harris, Brett Sitzlar, and Jeff Witzberger were the only Crew members to get a hit.

The Crew now stand at 1-6 and need to find some sort of spark before this season passes them by.

PORTAGE SOUTH 7 AT CANTON CREW 0
PORTAGE SOUTH 11 AT CANTON CREW 9

Game one was a story of untimely errors and a complete lack of hitting for the Canton Crew. Dave Ford walked 8 in his seven inning loss, but only gave up 3 earned runs being victimized by errors in key spots with runners on base.

At the plate the Crew offense to get zero hits, 10 strikeouts, and only managed to get 4 base runners on in the seven inning route.

Game two saw Jason Bogavich make his 2010 debut and it was a wild start. Bogavich walked 4 and allowed 5 runs in the first inning. He settled down a bit after that, but still walked an amazing twelve batters, giving up 8 runs(6 earned) in his six innings of work. Dave Ford game on in the 7th with the lead due to lack of available pitching. Dave having thrown 116 pitches, didn't look sharp, giving up 2 hits, one the decisive 2 run home run that put portage south ahead.

At the plate the Crew looked much better game two, collecting 9 runs on 12 hits. Jake Thomas went 2-3 with 3 RBI. Other standouts were TJ Lauck 2-3 3 RS, Torrey Stimson 2-4 with 2 RS, and Todd McCutcheon 2-3 with 2 RBI.

Canton Crew 10 at NEO Hurricanes 0

After a long week and a half of losing, rainouts, errors, and hit batters the Crew put together its first good game of the season on both sides of the field. Chris Franks was dominant in his first start, giving up a leadoff single in the 1st and then not allowing another hit for the next 5 innings striking out three. Defensively not one error was committed.

Offensively the Crew broke out of its slump with a slew of hits. 2009 MVP Torrey Stimson quickly made his mark on the crew lineup in his first game, going 2-4 with 3 RBI. Steve Roberts also had 3 RBI.

The Crew look to continue its winning ways this sunday against Akron AA powerhouse Portage South. Dave Ford(0-1 3.00) will be on the mound game one, Justin Clark(0-1 23.33)

Akron Lasiks 9 at Canton Crew 2

The Crew dropped its third straight game to start the season tonight. Bomberger got his first start of the year and struggled with command and consistancy, only going 3 and a third innings in the loss. Ken Wrobel relieved not faring much better, giving up 3 runs in 2.2.

At the plate the Crew offense was completely overmatched by Lasiks ace Dominique Rogers. Joe Piporo led the game off with an infield single, and besides a walk, those were the only base runners for the Crew until the 6th. After Rogers left the game the Crew mounted a meager rally, scoring two runs on a Jake Thomas 2 RBI single.

The Crew look to rebound Wednesday at Home behind Chris Franks getting his first start of the season.

NEO Hurricanes 4 at Canton Crew 3

The Crew dropped hits home opener and second game of the season tonight behind a slew of hit batsmen and non-existant offense. The Hurricanes plated four runs on only four hits. Helping put base runners on was the Crew pitching staff, who walked six and hit five batters in the losing effort. Dave Ford did look solid taking away the occasional wildness, striking out nine batters in the loss.

The offense was stagnant most of the night, the only RBI's provided by Paul Clarks sac fly, Steve roberts and Ronnie Harris' ground ball RBI singles. The crew had opportunities, but impatience at the plate cost them crucial RBI opportunities. Even with the Hurricanes hitting four batters, the Crew did not draw one walk to take advantage of the lack of command.

The Crew look to rebound against former Roy Hobbs rival the Akrom Dreams Thursday at LCCS. Chris Franks will look to rebound from his shaky Crew debut last Thursday as the bats also look to liven things up.

5.27.10

Canton Crew 9 at Akron Lasiks 15

The Canton Crew dropped its season opener to the defending Akron AA champions the Akron Lasiks at CVCA. Good hitting and bad defense was the theme tonight as the Crew banged out 9 base hits, including a 3-4 game from TJ Lauck, who also crushed his first homerun of the season.

9 runs, 7 earned, 7 walks and 3 hit batters is a line to make any pitching coach shudder. Combined with 6 errors in the field, it was simply too much to overcome for the Crew offense.

There was plenty to take away from this game in the positive. First was the return of Tom Bomberger, who threw 2 solid innings of relief. Tom had Labrum surgury in 2008, missing the entire 2009 season.

Other notables were Paul Clark 2-4 with 2 RBI and Jeff Witzberger 1-4 2 RBI

5.10.10

The roster for the 2010 season has been finalized. Boasting a 24 man roster up from 20(only around 13-14 active) in 2009. This will hopefully solve the attendance issues that have plagued the Crew for most of its existance. Also expanded and revamped is the pitching staff. The Crew come into the campaign with over ten players being able to pitch, again hoping to solve depth problems in the rotation and relief that have cropped up in the past.

The Crew are still looking for a home field, hopefully this will be resolved in the next week or two and many of the To be announced on the schedule will be filled.
